Is “sucks” a bad word? Who and when can use it? Can i use when i’m talking about sex? I need examples 🥲 Thank you! 🤗

Main Post:

upd: can children say this word in front of adults? or vice versa? in my language we don’t use this word except for describing sucking 🍭 so that’s why i’m asking

Top Comment: "Sucks" is usually used as a slang way of saying something is bad or disappointing. "That movie sucked." "I suck at baseball." This usage of "sucks" has come to be pretty PG-rated, I have heard plenty of children use it. Still kind of crass though; not something you'd want to put in an academic paper or work email. It can also have a connotation regarding oral sex, like "suck d---k."

Sucks and suck.

Main Post:

My reading skill sucks or suck? And why?

Top Comment: "My reading skills suck" because we generally think of "skills" as plural, so you would want to plural verb form of "suck" rather than the singular "sucks." We generally use "skills" rather than "skill" when talking about a skill set, such as math skills, reading skills, soccer skills, people skills, etc.

Popular Opinion: Reddit Sucks

Main Post:

Pretty self explanatory, Reddit is full of some of worst trash ever (me included), and I think we all know it.......

Top Comment: People are awful. Reddit gives people, regardless of how horrible, depraved, or genuinely caring, and positive, a vehicle to express their opinions but (to my experience) does little to promote or dampen one over the other. Reddit only sucks because it's full of people, and people suck.

Reddit is starting to suck now

Main Post:

1.) A lot of the subreddits are just far to strict who comes over and wants to post.

I get the reason for this, i truly do. But locking people who are new so you can watch them basically, is not the answer. The old way was. Where you see a negative person who posts and comments on things, and people would report that user, and the mods would ban them.

I would even say that it hurts the subreddit. People aren't going to want to wait to get approval to post something. Whether it's mods or get enough karma in that subreddit. People aren't going to stick around

2.) You can't have unpopular opinions anymore without getting told that you're wrong

I was on a gaming subreddit and said that I like the Assassin's Creed series except from valhalla upwards. And i got called a ubisoft sympathizer. Got a lot of dislikes. etc.

3.) Reddit is becoming more and more like Twitter with the ads.

Seriously. One of the main reasons why i left Twitter was to escape from the ad madness. Now reddit is doing the same thing now. There's ads all over the place here

I feel modern Reddit just generally sucks for discussions & debates now

Main Post:

Hey guys, oldredditor here just feeling a bit disappointed with the site and thought I'd speak out my unpopular opinion.

I don't know if it has something to do with when Reddit got bought out, but it seems in the last few years whenever I go on this website to read the comments, I only ever see things one sided and whenever there's an opposing argument in 24h all the comments turn into "Comment removed by moderator" or the threads "removed" if it's just a bit spicy.

This isn't an issue with a particular subreddit, this is just something I've been noticing generally across the whole site. Maybe all the popular communities? But it is getting pretty common now.

In the old reddit, reading the comments felt fun and there was a some kind of debate going on about the main post, and if someone said something generally people disagreed with, they'd just be downvoted or made fun of but still be available to read. But that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

In modern reddit, it feels like I just scroll and see hundreds of potentially interesting comments removed later with no real discussion anymore.
Other social platforms are starting to see Reddit in disgust too like some kind of censorship heavy echo chamber or paired with the discord/reddit moderator neckbeard memes? Like this platform isn't taken seriously anymore.

Speaking of other platforms, what's with all the recent spam topics "Proposal to ban X.com links" threads going on in the bigger subreddits?
I don't think that's a generally good idea just outright banning other platforms. I don't want everyone to be potentially stuck in another bubble.

So yeah I'm not liking the direction this new generation of reddit, it breaks my heart to see it become to this state after all these years. Is it just me?

Also whenever making a thread, it always feels like a 50/50 gamble whether it will be automatically removed because of some keyword or filter. I just don't trust this entire platform anymore. Anybody else feel the same or is it just me?

Top Comment: The echo chamber is almost completely sealed off now.

Reddit sucks now

Main Post:

I’m just getting so frustrated with the bullshit censorship Reddit is doing. I wish someone would fight back by starting a new app that is what Reddit used to be before they started tracking all of our comments. Not every person who expresses frustration and anger with the current US administration is a violent person. We should be allowed to vent our frustrations, show our support for certain individuals who have been illegally detained, or say anything that is voicing our anger and hostility towards what is happening. We are tired and we’re sick of being silenced over here. Billionaires are fucking ruining EVERYTHING and let’s not forget that this app is owned by a Republican who was likely bought by Trump and Musk. I’m just so fed the fuck up and want an outlet and this was it. But fuck this new Reddit and the people who own it. Free speech is an American ideal and this is an American app. It feels like just the beginning of a bigger systemic attempt to silence dissenters and I’m not for it.

Top Comment: This has got to be a troll, right? Reddit is one of the, if not the most left leaning App’s there is. I’ve seen Mods literally perma ban people from Subs simply for not 100% agreeing with their far left ideals. And they were Subs that had literally NOTHING to do with politics.

Reddit kinda sucks

Main Post:

New here, didn’t realize how unhelpful and negative most people are on here.

Edit: I was asking for cozy places to work remotely from and someone said a caffe which wasn’t the vibe I was going for because it’s loud and small and I replied “meh” and got -22 downvotes and karma I was just sharing my genuine opinion. And since I’m new my karma was -22 then. Other than that there are a few jerks here and there but not so bad but the first thing I was like damn wtf?

Top Comment: It would be better if the bad people weren’t also the moderators.

Why does Reddit suck so much now?

Main Post:

I used to get interesting posts, news, etc. Now the popular page is just random stupid memes and ads. The content on my feed is literally trash and I hate the giant tiles. Reddit now feels like Facebook, which I refuse to use. So guess I'm gonna uninstall Reddit too. Old Reddit will be missed, new Reddit and the official 'Reddit' app suck. Dumpster fire.

Top Comment: My feed has been flooded with just terrible subreddits like AmIUgly and RateMeBrutallyHonest It’s all just thirsty OF sellers begging for attention

Why does reddit suck so much

Main Post:

Karma is the dumbest concept on any social media platform. I can't even post a meme to r/okaybuddyretard a shitposting subreddit. This website is almost unusable at this point for new/infrequent users who want post anything. I hate it here

Top Comment: I’m not going to lie 2,000 is insane. I get you don’t want bots but for most people who don’t use Reddit as their alternative source of life support getting 2,000 could take to a better part of a year if not longer. I feel like 250 or 500 is better. Also if it an anti-raid measure then ban them, it’s not that hard. As for the quality control, that doesn’t make sense considering Reddit has a down vote system. If someone truly posted something bad and don’t feel like simply deleting it then the comments can down vote it to the earths core. Also if they are dealing with repost bots then again ban them if there that much of a nuisance The only way this makes sense if they have a very low amount on mods. But in general I see the thought behind karma but I definitely don’t like it.
